Historic old town - steep vineyards - Landshut Castle: a Moselle experience

For active vacationers and connoisseurs

Situated on both sides of the Moselle, Bernkastel-Kues invites you to take a stroll through over 2000 years of history. Magnificent half-timbered houses, the early Gothic St. Michael's Church and the pointed house on the historic market square are just some of the highlights. The impressive Landshut castle ruins, the landmark of the Moselle town, rise high above the town.

Relaxed and active
Nature and cities are best explored from the saddle of a bike or on foot. Especially when holidaymakers can expect such a well-developed network of cycle paths and hiking trails as in Bernkastel-Kues. Whether cycling on the Moselle cycle path or on the varied Maare-Moselle cycle path. Or mountain biking on excellent routes, past vineyards and through meadows and forests. Or enjoy hiking on the Moselsteig Trail, which has already been named "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail", and its side trails.

Enjoy and celebrate
Bernkastel-Kues is open all year round: Welcome to the traditional wine and street festivals in spring and summer, the summer stage with live music, the popular Middle Moselle wine festival in the fall or the Christmas market with fireworks and torchlight floats during Advent! There's also the Moselle Blue Festival on the banks of the Moselle in Kues and the wine and culinary hikes in November. There's also plenty of culture with concerts, cabaret and children's theater, thanks to the classical Moselle music festival or the varied culture in the pilgrimage church.

Wine and enjoyment
The famous and fine Moselle wine can of course be enjoyed at all these events. But also ... In the mild climate of the Moselle cultural landscape, on the mineral-rich soils of the steep slopes, the famous Riesling wines of the Moselle thrive. Wine lovers will get their money's worth with a visit to a rustic wine tavern or wine tasting in a winery. In combination with the creations of Moselle cuisine, gourmets will really go into raptures.

Cusanus
One of the most important philosophers of the Middle Ages was born here. Nicholas of Cusa, alias Cusanus, whose intellectual legacy can be seen in the house where he was born and in the St. Nicholas Hospital, which he founded.
