Sound Meets Sand Art: Music and live-created images merge into a fascinating experience!
Music and sand art come together in the extraordinary live performance “Grains of … Sound.” While pianist Jacopo Petrucci delivers a virtuoso interpretation of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and Ravel’s “Gaspard de la Nuit,” Italian sand artist Erica Abelardo creates mesmerizing images on a light table—live and in real time.
Inspired by the artwork of Viktor Hartmann and the poetry of Aloysius Bertrand, she uses sand to tell stories that are closely intertwined with the music. The result is a stunning interplay of piano music, visual art, and visual storytelling —moving, poetic, and immersive.
Erica Abelardo has been presenting her artistic sand animations at festivals and theaters both in Germany and abroad since 2011, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern media.
