From the Upper Moselle to Koblenz - which of the 10 stages will you cycle?

Can't make up your mind yet? Then here is a brief introduction to the Moselle Cycle Path.

The Moselle Cycle Path along the Upper Moselle to the Roman Wine Route

The start of the Moselle Cycle Path takes you from the border triangle of France/Luxembourg/Germany to the wine-growing town of Perl. As a border river to Luxembourg, this stage offers great views of Luxembourg's vineyards and the Moselle bridges also make it possible to take a detour across the border to Luxembourg.
Stage 2 starts in Perl and continues for a few more kilometers with a view of Luxembourg until the confluence of the Saar and Moselle rivers in Konz. From there, you will reach Trier after another 10 kilometers of cycling.
Trier is also the start of stage 3, which takes you over the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge to the left bank of the Moselle. From there, you cycle through the Trier district of Pfalzel, which was the summer residence of the Roman emperors for a long time, to the Moselle town of Schweich. In Schweich, the Moselle cycle route switches back to the right-hand side of the Moselle. From there, you cycle along the Roman Wine Route to the wine village of Mehring.

Our tip: plan some time to visit the oldest city in Germany with its landmark Porta Nigra and the other UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Trier Cathedral, the Basilica of Our Lady, the Barabara Baths and Imperial Baths and the Basilica of Constantine and enjoy the mediterranean flair of the Roman city.

The Moselle Cycle Path in the Bernkastel-Kues holiday region

Stage 4 takes you from the Roman Wine Route to the Bernkastel-Kues vacation region and the wine village of Piesport. The route includes one of the most beautiful Moselle loops between Leiwen and Trittenheim and the oldest wine village in Germany, Neumagen-Dhron.
From Piesport, you cycle on stage 5 through wine villages such as Wintrich and Brauneberg and with a view of the Moselloreley natural monument. After a few kilometers past MĂĽlheim, the view opens up to Landshut Castle, which towers high above the medieval town of Bernkastel-Kues.
Stage 6 takes you to the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach. This route thus connects two of the most famous Moselle towns. In between, numerous wine taverns and wine-growing villages such as Zeltingen-Rachtig, Erden and Kindel invite you to take a break.

Our tip: take a stroll through Bernkastel's old town with its half-timbered houses and historic market square.

The Moselle Cycle Path along the Lower Moselle to Koblenz

On stage 7 , you cycle from Traben-Trabach via the village of Burg through the historic town center through PĂĽnderich and on to Zell. Enjoy a glass of wine "Zeller Schwarze Katz" at a refreshment stop in the Moselle village of Zell. Here, the cycle path then crosses the bridge to the left bank of the Moselle and leads you to Bullay.
Stage 8 starts at the historic railroad bridge in Bullay on the left bank of the Moselle to Cochem, known for its medieval imperial castle.
Stage 9 from Cochem via Klotten and Pommern to Treis-Karden is full of castles.
The final stage of the Moselle Cycle Route, stage 10 from Löf to Koblenz to the Deutsches Eck. Here the Moselle flows into the Rhine and the Moselle Cycle Route ends at the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument.

Our tips: In Treis-Karden, take some time to visit the so-called "Moseldom", the three-towered collegiate church of St. Castor.
Or take a detour to the medieval Eltz Castle, one of the best-preserved and most beautiful castles in Germany. To do this, however, you have to leave the main route of the Moselle cycle path and cycle along the left bank of the river to Moselkern.
In Koblenz, you should definitely plan time for the old town and take the cable car across the Rhine, enjoy the wonderful views of both rivers and visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

Another tip: the listening points on the Moselle Cycle Path in German language

A special highlight is the audio tour Listening Points on the Moselle Cycle Path. there are 40 listening stations along the Moselle cycle path, 8 of which are in the Bernkastel-Kues vacation region. Simply download the Lauschtour app free of charge from the Apple App Store or Google Play and get off your bike at every "pling" and listen to the exciting stories of the Moselle locals.
