Music in Dialogue: Classical Meets Improvisation—an intense, lively concert experience!
In the Baroque Hall of Machern Monastery, renowned for its outstanding acoustics, two extraordinary artists come together for this special concert evening: Johanna Summer on piano and Franziska Hölscher on violin. Their program combines composed music with spontaneous improvisation. A piece is played—and in the very next moment, it is taken further. Johanna Summer picks up on motifs, energies, and timbres and, together with Franziska Hölscher, develops them into a lively musical dialogue between the original and its transformation, the past and the present, the violin and the piano.
Johanna Summer discovered jazz through her classical piano training and her encounter with free improvisation. Today, she combines classical music with an open, spontaneous style of playing. Her program “Schumann Kaleidoscope” was nominated for the German Jazz Prize in 2021.
