Day 1: Individual journey to Aachen
An early arrival in Aachen is worthwhile - there is a lot to discover in the cathedral city. In 1978, the cathedral was the first German building to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Take a leisurely stroll and visit the historic town hall and the new city museum and be sure to enjoy the famous "Aachener Printen", which are not just a treat at Christmas time.
Day 2: from Aachen to Monschau
Length: approx. 56 km
You leave the lively city of Aachen via the Vennbahn, one of the longest railroad cycle paths in Europe, and quickly forget the hustle and bustle of the big city. A constant back and forth between the countries begins: on this section, the cycle path crosses the border between Germany and Belgium several times. Enjoy not only the landscape, but also the delicacies of the region - Döppekooche, Belgian waffles or frites. After culinary delights, you can look forward to the town of Monschau, which is characterized by half-timbered houses.
Day 3: from Monschau to Bütgenbach (B)
Length: approx. 26 km
Cycle through one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Central Europe today - the High Fens. The high moorland landscape not only offers unspoiled nature and unique tranquillity, you can also enjoy a magnificent panoramic view. In the morning, leave the narrow streets of Monschau and follow the gently ascending cycle path through a mosaic of moors, heathland and stream valleys. In the evening, enjoy the tranquil idyll of Lake Bütgenbach - perhaps with a refreshing Belgian beer on the terrace of one of the cozy pubs on the shore. The perfect end to a day full of nature experiences.
Day 4: from Bütgenbach (B) to Gerolstein
Length: approx. 51 km
Leave the idyllic lakeshore behind you and set off on another stage full of natural delights - disused railroad lines, wooded hills, peaceful streams and the 27-hectare Kronenburger See lake. Today you change from the Vennbahn cycle path to the Kyll cycle path and cycle through the volcanic Eifel, which is characterized by its elemental forces. Gerolstein, which is famous for its mineral springs, is a highlight on today's predominantly slightly hilly cycle route. Today's destination, the town of springs with its striking rock face - the "Gerolstein Dolomites" - is impressive even from a distance.
Day 5: from Gerolstein to Bitburg
Length: approx. 39 km
The rugged rock formations with the famous "Munterley", with a height of 482 meters, offer a breathtaking view over Gerolstein and the Kyll valley far into the volcanic Eifel. With a wistful eye, you cycle into the narrow valley of the Kyll in the morning and follow the Kyll cycle path, mostly running directly along the river, through narrow valleys, forests and picturesque villages such as Kyllburg and St. Thomas with old monasteries and railroad bridges. The Bitburger Land region then welcomes you with rolling hills and your destination for the day, the brewery town of Bitburg. In the adventure world, you will experience with all your senses what makes the draught beer brand so special "Bitte ein Bit".
Day 6: from Bitburg to Trier
Length: approx. 55/64 km
On your last day of cycling, you are spoiled for choice:
The longer, more scenic tour takes you along the Nims, Prüm and Sauer cycle paths, finishing in the oldest city in Germany - Trier. Rivers and streams dominate the landscape today, criss-crossing the low mountain range landscape.
If you opt for the shorter tour, continue along the Kyll cycle path. Cycle gently downhill through the idyllic southern Kyll valley, mostly along rivers, nestled between wooded slopes, meadows and small villages.
Whatever you decide to do: You will quickly reach the Moselle and cycle the last few kilometers to the imperial city of Trier, where numerous Roman buildings are waiting to be discovered by you - a journey back in time to Roman antiquity.
