Day 1: Individual arrival in Metz
Travel to Metz in good time today, as the capital of the Lorraine region is well worth a visit and has a lot to offer! From past Roman times to the present day, the city boasts unique buildings and is famous as an episcopal see, university city and center of contemporary art. In addition to numerous sights in the old town, several extensive parks invite you to relax and linger, and the city's old restored fortifications are well worth a visit. In the city center, you will find stores and a variety of good and individual restaurants with different culinary offerings that are just waiting to be discovered by you.
Day 2: from Metz to Perl
Length: approx. 34 - 63 km, difficulty: easy
You will spend almost the entire day cycling in France today. Indulge in the famous French cuisine along the way and enjoy a good 'cafe au lait'. If you want to shorten the day's stage, you can start comfortably by train from Metz and travel to Thionville without changing trains (bikes can be taken free of charge). You can look forward to a cycle route with very reliable and good signposting. You will be in a good mood as you cycle close to the water to the French-German border. You have reached Perl just after the border on German soil and can now cross over to Schengen (other side of the Moselle / Luxembourg), known for the European agreement that regulates the free movement of goods and people, or take a nice bike ride to the Roman Villa Borg (5 km east of Perl). Marvel at the excavations, the reconstruction of the manor house and villa baths, the new layout of the old Roman gardens and enjoy a refreshment in the Roman tavern.
Day 3: from Perl to Trier
Length: approx. 52 km, difficulty: easy
Today you will be accompanied for the first time by the wide vineyards to the right and left of the Moselle. Take a detour to Remich, whose southern flair can be felt in the many cafés and bistros along the 3 km long Moselle promenade. Give the town, which was called Remacum by the Romans, a little of your time and marvel at the old alleyways and the deanery church from 1817. Recharge your batteries on the Moselle terraces before continuing along the right bank of the Moselle to Konz, where you cross the mouth of the Saar into the Moselle. From here, it is not far to Trier and you will still have time for an extensive tour of the city with a visit to the Porta Nigra, the amphitheater, the Imperial Baths or the magnificent cathedral.
Day 4: from Trier to Piesport
Length: approx. 48 km, difficulty: easy
This day is a real classic with a Roman past and contemporary wine culture. Cycle along the Moselle cycle path to Mehring, where the Villa Rustica awaits your visit. Villa Rustica is the name given to a country house or estate in the Roman Empire. Today, the reconstructed buildings and foundation walls can be visited again. You then roll leisurely to Trittenheim. Just before your destination for the day is Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine village in Germany! What could be more natural than to try a glass of wine here?
Day 5: from Piesport to Traben-Trarbach
Length: approx. 40 km, difficulty: easy
The two famous Moselle towns of Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach as well as the famous wine-growing region of "Kröver Nacktarsch" crown today's day. Marvel at the colorful, diverse half-timbered houses on the picture-book market square in Bernkastel-Kues and enjoy a wonderful boat tour in Traben-Trarbach.
Day 6: from Traben-Trarbach to Cochem
Length: approx. 55 km, difficulty: easy
Today you will discover Enkirch, a gem of Moselle half-timbered architecture, and Zell, the wine village with the 'Zeller Schwarze Katz'. Take a worthwhile break in little Beilstein, which proudly bears the nickname "Rothenburg on the Moselle", and look forward to Cochem with its picturesque center and the old imperial castle from the 11th century.
Day 7: from Cochem to Koblenz
Length: approx. 49 km, difficulty: easy
Today it is worth making a detour to the medieval Eltz Castle before the Moselle cycle path takes you to wine villages such as Koben Gondorf and Winningen, which are well worth seeing, and finally to the Deutsches Eck. Enjoy the sweeping views of the magnificent Rhine Valley and look forward to a lovely evening in Koblenz.

Parking facilities at the destination
Our contracted hotels in Metz are very centrally located in the city center and at the main train station and hardly have any private parking spaces. You can park your car for the entire duration of your trip in a nearby public parking garage. The cost per parking space per night is approx. 10.00 € (as of 2023). Condition of the cycle paths
The quality of the Moselle cycle path is excellent. There are practically no unpaved or poorly passable sections. The route runs almost exclusively on asphalted paths and is uniformly signposted from Trier to Koblenz. The traffic load along the Moselle varies, but between Trier and Cochem there is almost always a separate cycle path on the right or left side of the Moselle, away from the main road. Only on the last day of cycling is there a section on a wide cycle lane next to the main road.
Return transfer to the starting point of the tour
Every day there is the option of a transfer by minibus (with bike transport trailer) from Koblenz back to Metz at 09:00 (arrival there around 13:30). The driver comes to your hotel and has space for you, your luggage and your private bike if necessary. He will drive you back to your starting hotel and thus ensure a perfect return service without the hassle of changing trains or dragging suitcases. It is possible to bring your own bikes for an extra charge.
Train and bus in the Moselle valley
There is not always a train line running directly through the Moselle valley. After Trier, the train leaves the Moselle valley and the next train station is in Ürzig (near Zeltingen). From Bullay you have a train connection to Reil and Traben-Trabach. Shortly after Bullay, the railroad line disappears again in the Kaiser Wilhelm Tunnel and only reappears in Cochem. From Cochem, the line then runs completely through the Moselle valley to Koblenz.
In the period from 1.5. - 31.10. the cycle bus (line 333) runs daily between Trier and Bullay with a maximum capacity of 22 bicycles.
