Eifel meets Moselle
This sporty yet enjoyable cycle tour begins in the cathedral city of Aachen. You cycle along former railroad lines on mostly flat terrain, including through the picturesque old town of Monschau and the Eifel Nature Park with its impressive landscape. The Kyll cycle path alternates between rocks, castles and wide valleys before you reach the Roman city of Trier - the oldest city in Germany. Along the Moselle, you will be accompanied by steep vineyards, cozy wine-growing villages and impressive buildings with a rich history. After sporty stages and enjoyable moments between the Eifel and Moselle, your tour ends at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine, in Koblenz.

Day 1: Individual journey to Aachen
An early arrival in Aachen is worthwhile, as the cathedral city has a lot to offer. Aachen Cathedral - the first German building to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 - impresses with its unique architecture and history. The historic town hall and the modern city museum can also be discovered on a relaxed stroll through the old town. And a must for connoisseurs: the famous Aachen Printen, which are a real taste sensation well beyond the Christmas season.
Day 2: from Aachen to Monschau
Length: approx. 56 km
You leave the lively city of Aachen behind you and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of nature - on the Vennbahn, one of the longest railroad cycle paths in Europe. After just a few kilometers, the hustle and bustle of the big city is forgotten. Your route takes you across national borders in a constant interplay between Germany and Belgium - sometimes here, sometimes there. You will be accompanied by vast landscapes and regional delicacies: Whether hearty Döppekooche, crispy Belgian waffles or golden fries - culinary delights are guaranteed. Invigorated and inspired, you cycle on towards Monschau, a charming town with half-timbered houses and historical flair.
Day 3: from Monschau to Gerolstein
Length: approx. 80 km
Today you cycle through one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Central Europe - the High Fens. The high moorland landscape inspires with its unspoiled nature, tranquil expanses and magnificent views. From the narrow streets of Monschau, the gently ascending path leads through moors, heath and stream valleys to the idyllic Bütgenbacher See lake - perfect for a short break. Full of new energy, you leave the lakeshore behind you and follow old railroad lines through wooded heights and along quiet streams. Highlights of the stage are Lake Kronenburg and the Volcanic Eifel as well as the day's destination, the fountain town of Gerolstein - picturesquely situated beneath the imposing Gerolstein Dolomites, it is the ideal end to an eventful stage.
Day 4: from Gerolstein to Trier
Option 1: Length: approx. 80 km
The striking "Munterley" rock formation offers impressive views over Gerolstein and the Kyll valley. In the morning, follow the Kyll cycle path through narrow valleys and picturesque villages such as Kyllburg and St. Thomas. In Bitburger Land, the brewery town of Bitburg awaits you with the "Bitte ein Bit" adventure world - ideal for a lunch break. Back in the saddle and refreshed, the last stage takes you downhill through the idyllic Kyll valley to the Moselle and on to Trier, the city of the Romans - there are numerous monuments waiting to be discovered.
Variant 2: Length: approx. 105 km
The striking "Munterley" rock formation offers impressive views over Gerolstein and the Kyll valley. In the morning, follow the Kyll cycle path through narrow valleys and picturesque villages such as Kyllburg and St. Thomas. In Bitburger Land, the brewery town of Bitburg awaits you with the "Bitte ein Bit" adventure world - ideal for a lunch break. On the impressive final stage, you follow the Nims, Prüm and Sauer cycle paths through a landscape characterized by rivers to the Moselle. The last few kilometers take you to the oldest city in Germany, Trier. There you will see impressive Roman buildings - an exciting end to your journey through the Eifel.
Day 5: from Trier to Bernkastel-Kues
Length: approx. 70 km
Explore the Moselle: The ruins of the Villa Rustica, many vine-covered vineyards and Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine village in Germany, are just some of the highlights of today's stage along the Moselle. Countless cafés, wine taverns and wine taverns invite you to take a break before you cycle on to Bernkastel-Kues. Enjoy the historic market square, the heart of the town. Centuries-old half-timbered houses, the Renaissance town hall and the almost legendary Spitzhäuschen are just waiting to be discovered.
Day 6: from Bernkastel-Kues to Cochem/Treis-Karden
Length: approx. 60/70 km
Continuing directly along the banks of the Moselle, you cycle leisurely through the wine village of Zeltingen and Traben-Trarbach, where you can admire the impressive Art Nouveau and Belle Époque architecture. After a short break, your route takes you along the Moselle, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left, to Enkirch, known for its charming half-timbered architecture. At Bullay, you can marvel at the unique double-decker steel bridge for rail and road traffic. Continue to the small but romantic town of Beilstein, often referred to as "Rothenburg on the Moselle", with its narrow alleyways and picturesque market square. At the end of the day, you will reach your destination of Treis-Karden.
Day 7: from Cochem/Treis-Karden to Koblenz and individual departure
Length: approx. 50/40 km
If you still have energy and reserves of strength, then reward yourself with a worthwhile detour (+ approx. 4km) to the medieval Eltz Castle, one of the most beautiful and best-preserved castles in Germany. You then cycle through the historic wine village of Kobern-Gondorf and on through picturesque Winningen, one of the most beautiful villages in Germany. You follow the slowly widening Moselle valley towards the mouth of the Rhine. Your luggage will be ready for collection at a hotel in Koblenz by 6 p.m. at the latest. We recommend booking an extra night in Koblenz to round off the cycle tour in comfort and enjoy the impressive view of the Rhine Valley from the German side.
The return journey from Koblenz to Aachen can be made by train. The trains (regional trains) run every hour with a change in Cologne. The journey takes approx. 2.5 hours; the fare is approx. 45.00 € plus bike transport.
