There is no place in the Moselle region with more bridges than castles. The over 2000-year-old wine village has the Frohnbach, which flows through the middle of the village, to thank for this.
The small and idyllic wine and vacation resort of Burgen is characterized by the Frohnbach, which flows through the village and holds a regional record with its 20 bridges and footbridges. Numerous wineries, watermills and historic winegrowers' houses bear witness to Burgen's eventful history. A past that also includes a man named Johann Peter Petri, better known to his contemporaries around 1800 as "Black Peter". A notorious robber chief who is actually considered the inventor of the card game "Black Peter".
Peace and relaxation
In addition to the eventful history, it is above all the idyllic setting and the associated tranquillity that characterize castles. This natural seclusion makes the small vacation resort an oasis of rest and relaxation, far away from the hustle and bustle of hectic professional life. Situated directly on the border between the Hunsrück and Moselle (distance: 3 km), Burgen is the starting point for numerous well-signposted and varied hiking trails. A paradise for hikers, cyclists, e-bikers and animal lovers. Vineyards, meadows, floodplains and beech forests offer those seeking relaxation a diversity that is rarely found on the Middle Moselle.
