Burgen and its bridges
Burgen
Bridges connect: Courtyards, gardens, and houses in castles can only be reached partly by bridges and walkways. The numerous bridges owe their existence to the Frohnbach, which flows through the area along its entire length and empties into the Moselle near Mülheim.
In total, 20 bridges and footbridges span the Frohnbach in the local area: large and small, stone and wooden. As a result, Burgen is among the places with the highest number of bridges in the region. The Hanseatic City of Hamburg has the most bridges of any European city with 2,500 structures, more than Venice, Amsterdam, and London combined. However, per capita, Burgen has a significantly higher bridge density than Hamburg. There, one bridge serves about 700 residents, while in Burgen, there is only one bridge for every 30 residents.
