The festively decorated old town invites you to the Christmas market!
The Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues combines festive tradition with extraordinary experiences, winter romance, and culinary delights. Visitors can look forward to special attractions like the torch swimming and a festive fireworks display. Another highlight is the largest Advent calendar of the Mosel region, while the St. Nicholas hike invites everyone in the family to engage in an active Christmas experience. A must for connoisseurs is, of course, the distinctive Riesling mulled wine, one of the market's specialities.
More than 40 festively decorated Christmas stalls are scattered throughout the medieval old town of Bernkastel. The offerings range from traditional handicrafts to jewelry and candles, as well as nostalgic and extraordinary gift ideas. Culinary wishes are also met: Whether tarte flambée, hearty stews, fragrant waffles, sweet crepes, or hot mulled wine – everyone will find the right treat for a cozy stroll through the Christmas-decorated streets.
A truly special experience awaits visitors at the torch swimming in and through the Mosel. Year after year, more than 100 sports divers brave the icy currents of the Mosel to accompany St. Nicholas on his journey from the Kues harbor to the Bernkastel Moselle shore. After his safe arrival, St. Nicholas distributes gifts to the little visitors – an impressive and heartwarming tradition.
Life-sized and beautifully displayed is the largest Advent calendar of the Mosel region. In the marketplace of Bernkastel, a new door opens every evening in the windows of the historic half-timbered house of the Adler Apotheke during the Advent season. The opening is accompanied by a Christmas artistic performance, a song, a poem, or an atmospheric reading.
“Cast off!” is the call on the Advent weekends during the cosy Christmas boat trips of the White Fleet. A boat trip on the Mosel is a special experience even in the cold season – especially when hot mulled wine and spicy Christmas pastries are served on board. This is how the wintery Mosel landscape can be enjoyed leisurely from the water.
And of course, a festive fireworks display should not be missed. When it lights up the Advent-decorated old town of Bernkastel-Kues, the Christmas spirit is particularly impressive. The appropriate musical accompaniment is also ensured: Christmas melodies can be heard in many places throughout the old town and on the winter stage – not just on weekends. Thus, a visit to the Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues becomes a festive experience for the whole family.
