Hunsrücker Holzmuseum

In the museum, you can discover the diversity of wood as a raw material with all your senses.

The museum offers exciting insights into historical wood processing and the versatile use of wood in the home and yard. Visitors can expect a vivid and interactive exhibition that brings the raw material wood to life from different perspectives.

In the wood experience room, wood can be discovered with all the senses - see, feel, smell, hear and even taste. Topics such as dendrochronology (annual rings as witnesses of time) complete the experience.

The transformation of the tree illuminates the path from tree to product: tree species from the Hunsrück region, historical and modern timber harvesting, transport, sawmills and craftsmanship are presented in a comprehensible way. Particularly impressive are a historic broom maker's dog cart and a replica wood sawing machine from the early 20th century.

Living from wood shows how people made a living with simple woodwork - from cartwrights to broom makers and basket weavers to the use of simple means of transport such as the Hott and the Räätz.

In the Living with wood section, visitors learn surprising things: for example, how wood was used for washing - from beech ash as a detergent to wooden washing machines.

Other topics such as Wood as a means of packaging and transport or Wood in everyday life show painted chipboard boxes from 19th century cottage industry as well as religious wood carvings from Morbach workshops.

A wooden play room invites children aged three and over to try out and play with wooden toys based on ideas from Professor Kaden.
