The biblical book of Ruth
Religion course with PD Dr. Uwe Bauer
The Book of Ruth is an exciting text from which much can be learned about the narrative art of the Hebrew Bible. The short text belongs to the 5 Megillot, the festival rolls that are each assigned to a Jewish holiday. In the case of Ruth, it is associated with the early summer festival Shavuot. Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, occurs 7 weeks after Passover.
It is to be explored who the main character actually is – really Ruth? And what is Ruth actually about, a love story, a family story, or a conversion story, about women's solidarity or a messianic narrative? It is also interesting how the blessing works and how the deity and humanity interact. Over 7 evenings, Privatdozent Dr. Uwe Bauer will read the book with you. The basis will be a specially crafted translation. The course is suitable for all those who enjoy engaging with biblical texts in the sense of close reading.
