Ürzig spice garden on an old vineyard
The Moselle foreland and the plane tree avenue give Ürzig an attractive flair. While Ürzig was first mentioned as Ursiacum in 700, the "Ürziger Würzgarten" vineyard dates back to the 13th century. The vineyard is protected by a shell-shaped valley basin and the clayey slate soil guarantees the high quality of Ürzig wines. Ürzig is considered the wine-growing community with the highest proportion of steep slopes in Germany. Ürzig's landmark is the sundial, majestically embedded in a magnificent rocky panorama. A herb and spice garden has been laid out over an area of 2,400 m2. It contains small cultural and historical structures such as footpaths, steps, walls and small terraces. It is home to 10,000 perennials and around 160 species of aromatic plants, scented plants, medicinal plants and garden plants.
