The "Gateway to the Hunsrück" is located just 7 km from Bernkastel-Kues and the Moselle, nestled between meadows and forests - ideal for a vacation with a focus on hiking and cycling. When lower-lying valleys are still in the twilight, Monzelfeld already receives the first rays of sunshine! When dusk falls, the sun is still shining on the Hunsrück village near the Moselle. With its charming surroundings, the village offers numerous opportunities all year round to enjoy, experience, walk, hike or cycle through nature with its wealth of special features.
Hiking trails against a historical backdrop
Varied hiking trails lead around the village with connections to the neighboring villages, but also into the varied forests and valleys. Monzelfeld's history dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by finds. The village is attested by a document dating back to the year 634. The mills bear witness to how our ancestors farmed and used what nature had to offer, in this case primarily the water of the Hinterbach stream, to produce vital flour, but also oil for humans and animals, for example. Visitors to our village may even spot and observe the rare dipper or a fire salamander, as well as enjoying the sight of the interesting rock formations.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is said to have once changed horses in Monzelfeld, as indicated by his servant's entry in his diary.
