Directions

From the car park at the church (or at the "Alter Fährkopf" directly on the Moselle), where you can park your car, the hike starts on the Sonneninselrundweg, clockwise. Right next door in the Weinbergstraße you turn off to climb up to higher situated village streets and into the vineyards. The path leads along the wine educational trail uphill to the plague chapel. To the left you can see the Moselle and the Piesport villages of Reinsport and Niederemmel. Almost at the top, the path continues below the Moselloreley (if you like, make a detour to the lookout point) parallel to the sliding slope. You cross the district road K 52 and head for the Burglay rock. In ancient times, a Roman defence post stood here. The route continues through vineyards to the "Staustufenblick". From here you can wonderfully observe the lock of the Moselle ships. Then you walk leisurely downhill back to Minheim. In the village you pass another sight, the old Eichhaus. Elector Jacob III of Eltz introduced the "Eich" at the Moselle in 1567: the standard of wine and all other goods which one used to measure and sell with wine measures.
