Directions
From the Kasholz hiking car park you walk in a clockwise direction on shady forest paths. The first chestnuts are found at a clearing, from where you can also look out over the distant Moselle mountains. Then the stand of sweet chestnuts (Esskastanien) becomes denser. Many chestnut trees are old. They were planted around 1865.Public transit
However, the starting point of the hike lies above the village in the forest and is about 3 km from the village centre.

Getting there
From Bernkastel follow the B53 through the villages of Andel, Mülheim and Brauneberg to Wintrich. In Wintrich turn left into Bergstraße and follow this road (K85) until you reach the parking lot for hikers
