Directions
The starting point of the hike is at Gestade 6, in front of the Tourist Information. At the "Hotel zur Post" you walk over the steep Schlossweg through the vineyards towards St. Anna Chapel. Straight ahead and uphill, you hike on the "Way of the Cross." At a historic site stands the last of thirteen stations of the Way of the Cross, the St. Anna Chapel, which depicts the burial of Christ. The Moselle Chapel, built in 1615, was enlarged in 1890 and was for a long time the reason for a Bernkastel holiday: Annatag.
From the St. Anna Chapel, the path initially continues on a narrow and steep hiking trail (also marked as "Moselsteig"). Then the path meets a forest road that we follow uphill in the direction of Wilhelmshöhe.
From Wilhelmshöhe, the view extends far into the Eifel. Following the forest path towards Monzelfeld, you head towards the destination "Olymp." After some time, the edge of the forest opens up the view of the village Monzelfeld. This place is also a second possible starting point of this hike. Following the forest path downhill to the left, you reach after a few meters the junction at the Olymp (straight ahead leads to the Tiefenbachtal or on a direct path back to Bernkastel). The Bernkastel "Olymp" is the highest elevation in the Hunsrück at 415 m. From the summit, there is a great panorama of the town. The descent from the Olymp leads you first over a narrow path, then onto a forest road to the parking lot at the former youth hostel. Then continue to Landshut Castle and past the Schützenhaus to the historic marketplace of Bernkastel.
