Roman hairdressing scene
The lady of the house wears a finely draped robe which resembles Greek models. She is sitting in a basket chair rich in detail. Four servants with knotted hair are busy dressing the lady’s hair who is watching them with a severe and yet visibly delighted expression through the mirror.
The fragment counts among the many relief stones from the 2nd to 4th century AD - originally designed as Roman tombstones - which were installed in the basement of the castle at Neumagen-Drohn and rediscovered during excavations in the late 19th century.
