Kupferbergwerk Fischbach

The Fischbach visitor mine offers an underground experience for young and old alike.

Near Fischbach on the German Gemstone Route is home to one of the oldest and most important copper mines in western Germany. As early as 1544, Sebastian Münster praised the exceptional quality of the copper mined here in his Cosmographia. Copper was mined in the "Bergwerk im Hosenberg" until 1792 - the political upheavals of the time prevented a resumption.

Today, visitors can discover impressively preserved medieval tunnels, huge mining cavities and fascinating stalactite and crystal formations in the show mine. The copper mine is one of the few in Germany that has been preserved in its original state.

With great commitment, the interior of the mine has been made accessible by the municipality of Fischbach and the sponsoring association - a unique natural and cultural experience that brings history to life.
