Fiers chapel
The Fierskapelle chapel stands in the vineyards above Kues. A house of prayer stood on this site in the 17th century.
The Fierskapelle guarantees a wonderful view of the city. It was in 1670 when Andreas Fier, then the estate manager of the Archbishop of Trier, chose the old crossroads as the location for a chapel.
However, as the chapel fell into disrepair over time, it was simply demolished in the 19th century. The second, current chapel, a pentagonal building, was built as a Marian chapel in the years after 1903 and funded by donations. The Pieta was created by sculptor Bonnekoh from Morbach, and the altar was provided by stonemason Christian Schmitt from Cues. The chapel, colloquially known as the "Heiligenhäuschen," was extensively restored in 2003 by the Marian Brotherhood (the builder of the chapel, Andreas Fier, was a member of the brotherhood).
