Andel Protestant Church

The Protestant church in Andel was built between 1717 and 1719. This larger chapel is commonly referred to as the Andel Cathedral.

Although Andel is now a district of Bernkastel-Kues, it did not belong to the Catholic-oriented, Trier-based Bernkastel in the old empire, but to the County of Veldenz. As a result, the place is still part of the Lutheran Evangelical Congregation of Mülheim on the Moselle.
Around 1830, about 170 people lived in Andel in 42 houses, including about 130 Lutherans and 40 Catholics.
During the reconstruction of the church, the tower core of the former house of worship was integrated. The former simultaneous church is now rarely used by the Catholic community of Bernkastel-Kues.

The church consists of a late Gothic tower and a nave that was rebuilt between 1717 and 1719. The tower core of the old place of worship was integrated and contains the oldest bells of the Middle Moselle, cast in 1476 and 1488. In the years 1965/66, the interior was renovated and also redesigned. The artistic design of the altar, baptismal font, and pulpit was done by the Morbach sculptor Klaus Rothe. The small organ without pedals from 1972 comes from the Oberlinger organ workshop. In the early 1980s, the church received a new tower clock with a dial as well as an electric control for the clock hands and bell strikes.
