Voucher Operetta Festival "Zeltinger Heaven Kingdom"
After the very successful restart of the operetta festival in 2026, the "Zeltinger Himmelreich" is also on the program for the coming year 2027.
The operetta was created in the 1950s when the community announced a song competition. The winning composer, Werner Stamm, won three weeks of vacation in Zeltingen-Rachtig - and he enjoyed it so much that he immediately wrote a whole operetta about the life of winemakers and about an almost true event from the end of the 18th century. By the way: Werner Stamm is also the composer of the song "Wenn das Wasser im Rhein goldner Wein wär".
Until the end of the 18th century, the two towns on the Moselle were an enclave of the Electorate of Cologne. This meant, among other things, that the winemakers had to pay the Elector of Cologne the tithe in the form of wine every year.
In the year 1780, the Elector is informed that the wine is so sour this year that it can hardly be served at court. When suddenly an envoy of the Elector appears to verify the quality of the wine on-site, the excitement is understandably great. However, with a trick, the clever winemakers manage to outsmart the inspector. Of course, there is also a love story in the operetta.
While not a world-famous operetta, it is a work with catchy melodies that is performed by the citizens of Zeltingen-Rachtig with a considerable dose of common sense, humor, and also self-irony.
