Cheese & Wine - A Special Tasting Experience
Farm cheese from the greater region meets the wines of our winery Birnfeld in the holiday region of Bernkastel-Kues
A wine tasting with cheese by the Mosel, where you experience Mosel wines and regional farm cheeses in a completely new way: This is our cheese-wine tasting at the Birnfeld winery on the Middle Mosel. The wines of our winery highlight the flavors of the farm cheeses in their own unique way, and conversely, the cheeses alter the taste of the wines. It is this interplay that makes the combination so exciting and presents both products in a completely new light.
Your evening begins with a welcome drink and a small canapé. After that, you will be treated to eight cheeses and eight wines, which you will taste as pairings. Enjoyment is the focus here. You will discover how a cheese transforms a wine and vice versa, and experience flavor in a way that goes beyond the classic wine tasting or mere cheese eating.
The evening is led by master winemaker Jan Birnfeld and cheese sommelier Wolfgang Fusenig. Both guide you in a relaxed manner, providing plenty of space for casual conversations. Right at the winery, you will learn how Mosel wines are made, what is important during the grape harvest, and what makes each vintage special. The cheese sommelier will explain the different cheese varieties, their production, and what to pay attention to during the cheese tasting.
In a cozy-modern atmosphere in the Vinothek at the Birnfeld winery, the tasting turns into a sociable evening that you will fondly remember. The wine tasting with cheese is suitable for couples, friends, colleagues, and anyone who wishes to discover Mosel wine and farm cheese in a completely new way.

By Car
Directly across the street from our wine shop, there are paid parking spaces available. At the machine on-site, you can obtain a free parking ticket for one hour. After 7 p.m., you can park there free of charge.
By Bus:
In the immediate vicinity, there are two bus stops, each about 200 meters walking distance from our wine shop Weingut Birnfeld:
- Stop Ortsmitte Lieser
- Stop Alter Bahnhof
Both stops are served by line 340 of the Verkehrsverbund Region Trier (VRT).
Line 340 connects, among others, Wittlich, Platten, Osann, Noviand, Maring, Lieser (train station and Ortsmitte), Kues, Bernkastel, Monzelfeld, Gonzerath, Wenigerath, and Morbach. It usually runs hourly until around 11:30 p.m. Lieser is thus very well connected to Bernkastel-Kues, one of the most popular places along the Middle Moselle.
