The Odyssey: The Course to the Film
Homer's "Odyssey" has been adapted into numerous films; a recent one is currently showing in theaters. A good impetus to take insights into the work over 4 Wednesdays, reading and discussing excerpts.
What drives Odysseus? Can his travel route be reconstructed? Can the Odyssey be read as something other than an adventure novel? What role do the gods play? What does the figure of Odysseus mean? How was Odysseus later received - in literature (e.g. from Ovid to Dante to Joyce) all the way to television of the 70s??
