Apparently the Romans already appreciated this Hunsrück landscape, as they settled here and thus founded the almost 1,000-year history of "longus campus" (Latin for long field). Longkamp was first mentioned in a document in 1030, when Margravine Jutta of Lorraine donated her farms Bernkastel-Kues, Longkamp and Monzelfeld to the former St. Eucharius monastery near Trier.
