Vacation in the Eifel in a famous place of pilgrimage

The history of Klausen begins with the work of the Marian devotee Eberhard. Eberhard erected a statue of the Virgin Mary on an uninhabited spot on the site of today's pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary. The landlords of the area provided him with a piece of land in the district of the village of Krames for this little Marian house, on which Eberhard completed the small building ("clausa") in 1442 with the help of the locals. Klausen is the largest place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Trier. The pilgrimage season begins in the Marian month of May and ends in October. Today, Klausen is a popular excursion destination. Not only for pilgrims or pilgrims who are often on the Moselle Camino, but also for hikers or those seeking relaxation. And culture lovers are attracted to the Eifel by the "KULTUR IN DER WALLFAHRTSKIRCHE" event series, thanks to exciting and varied events.

Miracles in the Marienhäuschen
Over time, the place gained a certain fame due to the "miracles" that kept occurring. This development became unpleasant for the priest of Piesport, who feared that his authority would be impaired and his income reduced. He therefore took every opportunity to disrupt the work that had begun.
The following incident is recorded: Anna, Gotthard von Esch's wife, fell seriously ill. She instructed her chaplain Nikolaus to hold a mass for her recovery in the unconsecrated Marienhäuschen. During the mass, Anna was healed after receiving communion. The parish priest of Piesport, Johann Ordonis, then sued Father Nikolaus at the official office in Trier. This found him guilty of having celebrated without permission. Nikolaus went unpunished, but Ordonis managed to have Eberhard's image of the Virgin Mary moved to the parish church of St. Michael in Piesport.
When Wilhelm von Esch, a landowner, found out about this, he had Eberhard locked up in a house in the secret hope that his act would mobilize the population against the Piesport priest. In fact, the Bishop of Trier later allowed the image to be returned to the Marienhäuschen. Eberhard was released and hung the picture in its old place.

Culture in the pilgrimage church
The "Culture in the pilgrimage church" event program, which is organized entirely on a voluntary basis, was launched in 2013. Various events take place throughout the year, from concerts and readings to lectures and tractor and motorcycle blessings.
