There is a lot to see in Bernkastel-Kues. If you only have one day, here are tips & ideas for a great day out in Bernkastel-Kues.
During the season, you can choose between one-hour round trips or longer tours. The departure point is below the Moselle Guest Centre (Tourist Information) on the banks of the Moselle. For more information on timetables and departure times, click here.
There is a wide range of different city and themed tours. The guided tour of the old town is offered all year round on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m., meeting point is Karlsbader Platz (directly behind the Mosel Guest Centre).
The castle can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes. From the market square in Bernkastel, walk past the Spitzhäuschen on the left, up Karlstraße. From there, turn left through the vineyards up steps to the ruins of Landshut Castle. Our tip: The city walk Burgberg-Rundweg - via this path you can reach the castle in about 1 hour. Another option is the family circular walk, which takes about 1.5 hours and is also suitable for prams.
Alternatively, during the season (April to October) there are daily tours with the Landshut Castle Express. Departures are every hour on the hour, from 11 am to 5 pm. The departure point is at the Gestade in Bernkastel, directly in front of the municipal building.
The panorama train runs during the Rhineland-Palatinate school holidays hour from 11 am to 4 pm (except 1 pm) from Monday to Sunday during the season (Easter, May to October). Outside the school holidays the train runs from 11 am to 3 pm (except 1 pm) from Monday to Friday. It starts opposite the Mosel Guest Centre (Tourist Information) and runs through the old town and the vineyards. More information about the route and prices can be found here.
There is a wide range of day trips with the Feuerer Bustouristik company. During the season, trips are offered to Trier, Koblenz, Luxembourg and Paris, among others. Further information on trips and prices can be found here.

The Maare-Mosel cycle path runs along a former railway line between the Volcanic Eifel and the Moselle. It is recommended that you first take the cycle bus from Bernkastel-Kues to Daun. From there you then cycle back to the Moselle. Especially in the high season, it is also advisable to make an online reservation for the bus. The bus runs between 1 April and 1 November. Online reservations for bicycle transport on the bike bus can be made at www.radbusse.de. We are also happy to make the reservation for you at the Mosel Guest Centre when you are on site. Please note that an online reservation is only possible up to 2 hours before departure.
You can park your bicycles at the facilities provided for this purpose at the car park (near the Litfass pillar). There is also a bicycle storage room directly at the Moselle Guest Centre (Tourist Information). This also has lockers and an e-bike charging station. The bicycle cellar is open from April to the end of October at the following times: Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., from 4 April additionally Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Exception: the cellar is not available during the Middle Moselle Wine Festival).

The historic old town with its market square, pointed house and St. Michael's fountain is located in the Bernkastel district. You walk from the Mosel Guest Centre (Tourist Information) to the bridge, then turn left into the town and come directly to the market square.
All buses leave from the "Forum" stop in the Kues district. To get there, walk from the Mosel-Gäste-Zentrum (Tourist Information) to the bridge, then turn right over the bridge. You go straight on to stay on Bahnhofsstraße. Behind the "Bahnhof Cues - das Brauhaus" you will find the bus station "Forum".

You will find one toilet facility in the Kues district at the old railway station, three more in the Bernkastel district: at Karlsbader-Platz behind the tourist information office, as well as at Gestade, Alter Moselbahnhof and at the kiosk in front of the Verbandsgemeinde. You can find a map here.
In the Bernkastel district, there is a Volksbank/Raiffeisenbank cash machine directly at the Mosel Guest Centre building (Tourist Information). This is accessible 24 hours a day. In the Kues district there is a branch of the Deutsche Bank in Cusanusstrasse, a branch of the Raiffeisenbank in Friedrichsstrasse and a branch of the Sparkasse in Cusanusstrasse.
