According to oral tradition, the sanctuary was originally built in honour of St. James and only later found its present form as St. Joseph's Shrine. A figure of St. Kilian watches over the entrance of the chapel. The two reliefs inside and the Kilian's figure are works by Paul Simon. The statue of St. Joseph inside the chapel is 135 centimetres tall and made of wood.
