Wehlen and its bridges
Wehlen always had only a short pleasure with his bridge constructions. The first concrete bridge of 1915 could not withstand a flood of 1920 and collapsed due to insufficient foundations. This was followed in 1926 by an iron construction (arched bridge), which, however, fell victim to blasting in 1945 when German soldiers withdrew.
1913
Start of the first bridge construction ("Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke"). The construction of this concrete bridge with 2 river and 2 land openings will be carried out by Karl Brand, Düsseldorf with a construction sum of 250,000 marks. The transfer of traffic takes place on 22.09.1915.
1920
On 15 January, the biggest flood since 1784 destroys the bridge (foundation error). In the years 1923-24 the bridge rubble is cleared.
