Bernkastel-Kues has enjoyed a lively partnership with the famous spa town in the Czech Republic for over 10 years. Various circles of friends and a very active partner club prove this impressively.
Stroll and enjoy
"Karlsbader Platz" with its cafés, restaurants and wine taverns is an attractive destination for many guests and visitors who spend their holidays on the Moselle in Bernkastel-Kues. Thanks to its central location, concerts and other events take place here regularly. Live concerts are regularly held here as part of the Bernkastel-Kues summer stage, and it is also a sought-after venue for choral societies and chapels. Last but not least, together with the historic market square, it is one of two venues for numerous music groups during the great "Wine Festival of the Middle Moselle".
Partnership Fountain
The fountain on Karlovy Vary Square is a gift from the Czech twin town, its counterpart is on the plague column in Karlovy Vary. The sculpture symbolizes eternal life, day and night. The girl's face reminds us of the day, the boy's face of the night with closed eyes. The two snakes embody the eternal power, on the bodies grapes are recognizable. The cascading waterfall - over three levels - is reminiscent of the eternal cycle: Water is a symbol of health, cleanliness and strength.
Living partnership
Since 1990, the town of Bernkastel-Kues has maintained a friendly relationship with the international Bohemian world health resort of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. Since then, delegations of Bernkastel-Kues have been invited to the opening of the spa season in Karlovy Vary every year at the beginning of May. An official return visit from Karlovy Vary is made every year to Bernkastel-Kues for the Middle Moselle Wine Festival. René Achtermann and Willi Bottler, long-standing head of the transport office of the city of Bernkastel-Kues, have been there right from the start.
