The small and idyllic wine and holiday resort of Burgen is characterised by the Frohnbach, which flows through the village and holds a regional record with its 20 bridges and footbridges. Numerous wineries, water mills and historic winegrowers' houses bear witness to the eventful history of castles. A past that includes a man named Johann Peter Petri, better known to his contemporaries around 1800 as "the Black Peter". A notorious robber-chief, who is actually considered the inventor of the card game "Black Peter".
Peace and relaxation
Besides the changeful history, however, it is above all the idyll and the peace associated with it that characterises castles. This natural seclusion makes this small holiday resort an oasis of rest and relaxation, far away from the hustle and bustle of professional life. Situated directly on the border between Hunsrück and Moselle (distance: 3 km), Burgen is the starting point for numerous well signposted and varied hiking trails. A paradise for hikers, cyclists, e-bikers and animal lovers. Vineyards, meadows, brook meadows and beech forests offer recreation seekers a variety that is rarely found on the Middle Moselle.
