The fountain by Czech artist Jan Kotek on Karlovy Vary Square is a gift from the twin town of Bernkastel-Kues, Karlovy vary. The sculpture symbolizes eternal life, day and night. The girl's face reminds us of the day, the boy's face of the night with his eyes closed. The two snakes embody the eternal power, on the bodies you can see grapes, among other things. The waterfall falling in cascades over 3 levels reminds of the eternal cycle: Water is a symbol of health, cleanliness and strength.
Lived Friendship
Since 1990 the town of Bernkastel-Kues has maintained a friendly relationship with the international Bohemian world health resort Karlovy vary in the Czech Republic. Every year a delegation of Bernkastel-Kues is invited to the opening of the spa season in early May in Karlovy Vary. An official return visit from Karlovy Vary is made every year to Bernkastel-Kues for the Middle Moselle Wine Festival. René Achtermann, long-standing head of the transport authority of the city of Bernkastel-Kues, and Willi Bottler have been involved right from the start.
