Directions
The centrally located village shop with the pilgrims' hostel "Eberhardsklause" is an ideal starting point for the hike. Here you can also stock up on provisions. First you walk over a meadow area to the district of Krames. Past the village well you soon leave the "Moselle Camino" and walk along the edge of the forest and Kramesbach steadily up the stream. At a turn-off you follow a steep forest path. The path is marked with the "Wein-Wallfahrtsweg-Herzlogo-Sign" and the "Moselsteig-Zuweg-Sign". The forest path continues to lead you uphill. Finally you will reach a clearing which you follow along the edge of the forest. On meadow paths through an area with old fruit trees you will come to an asphalt farm track. Keep left and follow the tarred road until you reach the L50, cross it and continue past the Piesporter Heiligenhäuschen. The "Moselhöhenweg" is now additionally marked at the side of the path (only still exists on the Eifel side). The path continues to climb slowly. To the right of the path the edge of the valley is forested. A short detour through the narrow protection forest leads you to a place that offers a great view of the Moselle arc at Piesport. Shortly afterwards, you can also look to the left of the path to Klausen and the Eifel. A little further on, at the Minheim refuge, there is also a 180-degree view of the Hunsrück heights at a crossroads. Shortly after the hut there is a longer passage through forest. After a resting place, you stay at altitude for a short time, then you follow an old cattle drive above an abandoned quarry. Over tree roots this narrow path leads you downhill and crosses a forest path. Then it goes over a meadow orchard into the vineyards, where a beautiful view of the Moselle valley opens up. The path leads down the vineyards to the outskirts of Monzel. After a short detour to an island of peace, which is located a little above the Monzel village church "Sankt Nikolaus", you enter Monzel, part of the village and winegrowing community of Osann-Monzel. There you will have the opportunity to stop for a break. Via the "Hüttenkopfstraße" and "Brunnenstraße" you leave Monzel again. Continue along the wooded foothills of the Monzeler Hüttenkopf, which is the second highest Moselle mountain at 423.4 m above sea level. First at the edge of the forest, then deep into the forest. Coniferous trees and mixed forest alternate over a length of about five kilometres, with hiking on forest paths. Only at the "Heukehr", situated above the small settlement Neu-Minheim, you will meet open meadowland again. Now it is not far to the starting point of the hike. From Neu-Minheim you can already see the tower of the Klausener pilgrimage church "Maria Heimsuchung". Your visit crowns the end of the approx. 20 km long hike.Public transit
