The Winery Wwe. Dr. Hugo Thanisch, Heirs Thanisch was first mentioned in a document in 1636. Today, the winery is run by the twelfth generation of the family and the fifth generation of women. The most famous vineyard is the Berncasteler Doctor, which has been in the family for over 200 years. Only Riesling is cultivated. Since 1910, the winery has been a founding member of the Association of Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP).

The winery cultivates 9 ha in the slate steep slopes of Bernkastel-Kues. The top wines come from the Bernkastel Grand Cru sites: Berncasteler Doctor, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube and Bernkasteler Graben. The estate and local wines come mainly from the vineyard sites in Kues. The most famous vineyard is the Berncasteler Doctor, which has been in the family for over 200 years. In 1882, Dr. Hugo Thanisch bought about 6,000 square metres of the exceptional vineyard at an auction for more than 100,000 gold marks. Even then an extremely high price, which would amount to several million euros according to today's value. Terroir and sustainability are the principles according to which the vineyards are cultivated. Only Riesling is grown. Since 1910, the estate has been a founding member of the Association of Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP). The estate house, the "Villa Thanisch", is located on the left bank of the Moselle in Bernkastel-Kues and was built in 1884 by Dr. Hugo Thanisch and his wife Katharina in the neo-Renaissance style with slate stones and sandstone ornaments. The winery's vinotheque is located on the ground floor. This is where the wine tastings are held. The architecture is also reflected on the label, as the classic Art Nouveau label that has been in use since 1901 shows the building, which was erected in 1884
