St. Josef's Chapel

The 18th century chapel is located at a crossroads not far from the old town centre.

The chapel in the Bernkastel vineyards was renovated in 1921 under the supervision of the sculptor Paul Simon. According to oral tradition, the chapel was originally built in honour of St. James and only later found its current form as a shrine to St. Joseph. A figure of St Kilian stands guard over the entrance to the chapel. The two reliefs inside and the figure of St Kilian are the work of Paul Simon. The statue of St Joseph inside the chapel is 135 cm tall and made of wood.
