Fiers chapel
The Fierskapelle chapel stands in the vineyards above Kues. A house of prayer stood on this site in the 17th century.
The Fier Chapel guarantees a marvellous view of the city. It was in 1670 that Andreas Fier, court steward to the Archbishop of Trier, chose the old crossroads as the site for a chapel. However, as the chapel became dilapidated over time, it was quickly demolished in the 19th century.
The second, current chapel, a pentagonal building, was built as a Marian chapel in the years after 1903 and financed by donations. The Pieta was created by sculptor Bonnekoh from Morbach and the altar was made by stonemason Christian Schmitt from Cues. The chapel, popularly known as the ‘Heiligenhäuschen’, was extensively restored in 2003 by the Marian Brotherhood (the builder of the chapel, Andreas Fries, was a member of the Brotherhood).
