Wehlerner Eulenbrunnen "owl fountain"

The Eulenbrunnen (“owl fountain”) is located in the wine village of Wehlen, a district of Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle.

Holidaymakers on the Moselle find the Eulenbrunnen (“owl fountain”) in Wehlen, a district of Bernkastel-Kues. It was built in 1982.
Owls have counted as smart, wise animals since antiquity, when they were worshipped as companions of Goddess Athena with numerous statues and pictures spread all over Athens. On the front doors in Wehlen, you can find stone figurines of owls, too. The gardens are populated by wooden owls and bronze statues can be found at the village fountain.
The reason for the owlmania is that “Eule” (owl) is the nickname for the residents of Wehlen. The slope above the village is a breeding ground and nesting site of different types of owls. Their loud screeches made the question: “Do you hear the owls again?” very popular among residents of the opposite side of the Moselle.
