Amidst the vineyards opposite of Wehlen, the sundial of Wehlen village (“Wehlener Sonnenuhr”) lets you know the time during the day. The local vineyard site was named “Wehlener Sonnenuhr” after the sundial.
The Wehlener sundial in the vineyards of the village Wehlen shows, like all old sundials, the true local time, i.e. when the sun has reached its highest point above Wehlen, the clockhand shadow falls on the twelve. Around 1900, the "Wehlener Sonnenuhr" vineyard designation was introduced for the first-class wine that ripens on the steep slope of the sundial.
