Wine taverns along the Moselle - enjoy wine and delicacies
How about a stop at one of the cosy wine taverns, a so-called "Straußwirtschaften" on the Moselle. These seasonal “Straußwirtschaften”, often set up in the courtyards or wine cellars of winegrowers, usually open their doors in spring and fall. A bundled wreath of straw or “bouquet” on the door signals that the winery is open. Hence the name: “Straußwirtschaft”. Visitors can taste the excellent Moselle wines, especially Riesling, in a convivial atmosphere.
However, “Straußwirtschaften” offer more than just excellent wines - guests can also expect culinary delights here. The winegrowing families also serve hearty regional specialties that go perfectly with the wines. Whether it's hearty “Spundekäs”, homemade tarte flambée or fresh “Winzervesper” with sausage and cheese - the dishes are simple but delicious and reflect the traditional cuisine of the Moselle. The warm atmosphere and lovingly prepared dishes make a visit to a “Straußwirtschaft” a special experience.
