"Book off!" - The new reading weekend in Bernkastel-Kues from March 21-23, 2025

Three days - five readings - two locations

Bookworms and culture vultures should mark March 21, 22 and 23 in their calendars for 2025. The Kulturstätte Heilig-Geist Church will be hosting a wide range of readings for adults with carnivalist Anne Vogd, thriller author Arno Strobel and Michi and Marc Schreiber's monkey project. The Goertz bookshop will continue with the young adult author Isabel Clivia and the children's book author and illustrator Philip Waechter.

The cultural office of the town of Bernkastel-Kues wants to continue the reading series in the Heilig-Geist Church, which started two years ago. The church always becomes a reading venue - it leaves an impression on visitors and authors alike.

For "Book off!", the Goertz bookshop will also be involved, becoming a second reading venue alongside the church. The reading weekend with its different genres is intended to appeal to a large number of bookworms and further establish the topic of "reading" in Bernkastel-Kues.

Please note: All readings are in German.

"Book off!" - The authors

Anne Vogd

She is at home in the Cologne carnival and so you can already guess what is in store for the guests of the reading with her reading material "Gegendert wird was auf den Tisch kommt".

There won't be a dry eye in the house and one or the other will certainly find themselves in Anne Vogd's comments..

What is put on the table is gendered

Anne Vogd writes about her life as a boomer mother with a woker daughter.
She tackles the everyday madness of having a teenage child in a quick-witted, self-deprecating and uproariously funny way. She experiences first-hand that life has become complicated when her 23-year-old daughter returns home.
She takes a humorous and self-deprecating, but also conciliatory look at contemporary debates and makes you laugh out loud. For readers of "Getting older is sexy, you moan more" or "It's just a phase, rabbit".

She comes to the reading on foot because she lives just around the corner from the Goertz bookshop.

Isabel Clivia takes young people into a "romance world" with crime elements. Her stories are about quick-witted heroines who fight for their dreams and love with a lot of heart.

Ocean Hearts - Admire the Lights

It's the continuation of Isabel Clivia's sparkling New Adult series on the luxury cruise ship Ocean Hearts. Gemma has recently started working in the gym on the cruise ship. When she is asked to train with Callan King, she is faced with a challenge. The attractive young actor is so sure of himself that Gemma doesn't want to spend a second longer than necessary with him. But then she receives a lucrative offer... And so it comes to fateful decisions and sizzling feelings on the glamorous cruise ship that light up the polar nights.

Arno Strobel

His thrillers draw readers into the abysses of human cruelty. In his readings, he reads less, but talks more from his "writing box".
Once you've started with Strobel, you can't stop....

Murderfinder - The pattern of evil

Max Bischoff, a gifted case analyst, is investigating his 5th case.
Bischoff and handwriting expert Marvin Wagner are about to open their joint detective agency WaBi Investigations when the nine-year-old son of a judge is kidnapped in Düsseldorf.
When the kidnapped boy is found dead and another child disappears, Max and Marvin realize that they have extremely little time left to prevent another murder. A nerve-wracking kidnapping investigation for all thriller fans by bestselling author Arno Strobel.

Philip Waechter

Philip Waechter studied communication design with a focus on illustration in Mainz. He now lives as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator in Frankfurt am Main.
He is often referred to as "Germany's master illustrator" (FAZ).

Toni. And all because of Renato Flash

Philip Waechter's "Toni. And it's all because of Renato Flash", Philip Waechter presents a touching yet light-hearted story. In the form of a comic, Waechter tells the story of how little Toni is taken with soccer boots with a flashing function. He absolutely has to have them. His mother is less than enthusiastic and so he tries to earn the money for them himself. He delivers flyers, tries his hand as a street musician, walks an old lady's dog... But something always goes wrong. He encounters many an obstacle, but despite everything he gains many wonderful experiences. A warm-hearted story in comic form, not just for boys.

Michi and Marc Schreiber

It's going to be a monkey show... Michi & Marc Schreiber have launched a monkey project in South Africa, which they report on in detail with pictures and stories.
The proceeds from their books and readings flow one-to-one into the "Affenstark" project, which is a matter of the heart and love for both of them.

Among monkeys

What happens when a down-to-earth civil servant and a daredevil animal rights activist meet and spontaneously marry? The adventure of marriage could turn into a monkey circus..
Because Marc Schreiber accompanies his newlywed wife Michi Schreiber to the other side of the world after their wedding and swaps the familiar all-inclusive hotel with cocktail bar and pool for mud huts, monkey poop and machetes. The couple take her on an unusual journey, on which they do their utmost to help monkeys.
