Wilderness - and what is the forest of the future?
Discover with Jan Haft why wilderness is more than just unspoilt nature - fascinating insights!
A forest full of old and dead trees - this is how we imagine wilderness. A landscape without traces of civilisation, because man and pristine nature are mutually exclusive. But is this image true? Wilderness always means a kind of tug-of-war between natural forces. Where we humans disturb this balance, natural processes can no longer take place. What remains is impoverished nature and not wilderness, even if we leave nature to its own devices. In forests that are no longer managed, for example, only a fraction of the native animals, plants and fungi live today. Why is that? What do large herbivores such as horses, water buffalo and cows have to do with biodiversity? And what are the most important factors for preserving biodiversity? The award-winning author and nature film maker Jan Haft answers these and many other questions.
Biologist Jan Haft is an award-winning wildlife and nature filmmaker. Slow and fast motion, macro shots and moving camera make processes that are barely visible to the eye tangible and reveal hidden connections. His films allow viewers to immerse themselves in a seemingly familiar world and discover it in a completely new way. In the process, not only are new visual highlights constantly offered to the eye, but seemingly certain insights are also called into question. (Source: Wikipedia)
