Plato - Alcibiades
Alcibiades was a radiant, ambitious, very self-confident young man who wants to rule over the Athenians and believes he can do so easily.
Socrates now engages him in a conversation meant to provoke thought. This is how Plato presents it in his dialogue. It is about whether justice or power is at the center of politics; whether justice is also advantageous; what one must know to be a successful politician; ultimately: that one must know oneself and be concerned about oneself before one can care for others as a politician. The dialogue thus also serves as an introduction to Plato's early philosophy in general.
