The operetta festival "Zeltinger Himmelreich" will take place again in 2026!

This July, it’s that time again: The Zeltingen marketplace will turn into a stage, where singing, acting, and dancing are performed exclusively by amateurs, meaning locals, and all with a healthy dose of mother wit. And the operetta? It's called “Zeltinger Himmelreich,” it’s about wine, and it lives up to its name.
The year is 1780, and the winemakers in the Kurköln Oberamt Zeltingen-Rachtig are rebelling against their landowner, the Elector of Cologne. They refuse to pay the tithe, which is annually delivered in the form of wine from the excellent Zeltingen vineyards “Zeltinger Himmelreich, Schloßberg, Sonnenuhr, and Deutschherrenberg.”
The Elector is informed that the wine is so sour this year that it could not possibly be served at court. When suddenly an envoy from the Elector appears to assess the quality of the wine on-site, there is understandably a great deal of commotion. However, with a clever trick, the crafty winemakers manage to outsmart the inspector. Of course, a love story cannot be missed... more will not be revealed at this point.
