Swimming by torchlight in the Moselle

During the Christmas market the traditional torchlight swimming takes place in the Moselle.

The torchlight swim through the wintry icy Moselle has been a highlight for years and attracts thousands of visitors. More than 100 sport divers, all equipped with a torch in their hand, accompany St. Nicholas on his way from Kues harbour to the Bernkastel Moselle shore below the bridge. Here St. Nicholas, who has arrived safely in his boat, will then also distribute presents to the children.

But after the torchlight swim, Bernkastel-Kues is far from over. The Christmas market in the old town attracts visitors with great Christmas articles, high-quality handicrafts, hearty food, sweet delicacies and warming mulled wine.
