Children's theatre ‘Hansel and Gretel’
‘Hansel and Gretel’ is one of the most famous tales by the Brothers Grimm.
The tale from the German fairytale landscape about the two children who are sent into the forest by their parents and have to fight a dangerous witch alone in the depths is performed on stage at the Kurgast Centre.
In this play, however, the evil witch is not just evil. In this version of the fairy tale, all the characters have a ‘good reason’ for their actions and become who they are as a result of the circumstances. Probably the most important theme of the play is poverty. The parents of the two siblings have hardly any money and cannot offer their children a nice house, expensive food or expensive clothes.
They do things that poverty forces them to do. The two actors Verena Bill and Michael Koenen from the Niederrhein Theatre impressively show the children how fate determines life and that you can survive with courage. With the help of a stage set that can be rotated in a few simple steps, the fairy tale is set close to the original story. The two actors slip into all the roles and show impressively how theatre works.
