Michael Schütz inspires with pop, rock and film music on the organ - a concert for young and old!

When you think of organ music, Johann Sebastian Bach naturally comes to mind first. However, Berlin church musician Michael Schütz is breaking new ground: on Sunday, 23 November 2025 at 7 pm, he will play pop, rock and film music on the large organ in the pilgrimage church in Klausen. His first concert in Klausen in 2023 already attracted many visitors to the pilgrimage church. For Schütz, this is much more than just a concert: ‘I want to show the audience how music can create a connection to their own lives and enable an inner relationship with the church through the special atmosphere of the church space and the sound of the organ.’

With the new programme ‘Beatles, Stones and Star Wars’, he offers an exciting mix. Songs such as ‘All You Need Is Love’ and ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ focus on love and friendship, Eric Clapton's ‘Tears In Heaven’ conveys hope and comfort, and the iconic melodies of ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Titanic’ bring heroes back to life. Timeless classics by Deep Purple, Abba and Queen are also played on the organ. The programme is suitable for young and old, organ lovers and culture enthusiasts, Christians and people from outside the church.

Michael Schütz, born in 1963, is a commissioner for popular music for the Protestant Church in Berlin-Brandenburg, teaches popular music at the Berlin University of the Arts, among others, and works throughout Germany as a freelance composer, organist and seminar leader. Concerts in Germany, Europe and the USA (Carnegie Hall New York), TV appearances and studio productions have taken him together with Jennifer Rush, Gloria Gaynor, Klaus Doldinger's Passport, The Temptations, Chaka Khan, German Brass, Toto Cutugno, SWR Big Band, among others. He publishes compositions for keyboard instruments, brass, choirs, symphony orchestras and ensembles with various publishers, including in collaboration with regional churches, institutions and associations.
