Vacations on the Moselle in the footsteps of Caesar

The wine village of Kesten is characterized by lovingly restored half-timbered houses that characterize the historic town center. Framed by steep vineyards and the Moselle, Kesten is a prime example of a typical Moselle wine village. Kesten can look back on over 1,000 years of history; the village was first mentioned in a document in 936. However, finds such as a Roman sour well suggest that Celts and Romans already settled here. The oldest known place name "Castanidum" (chestnut grove) dates back to the Middle Ages.

Kesten holds court
Don't you think so? Yes, of course: this refers to the numerous old wine farms that characterize the tranquil townscape and at the same time tell a piece of the history of the 1,000-year-old wine village. For example, the Himmeroder Hof with its striking Gothic bay window or the estate of the last Elector of Trier, Clemens Wenzeslaus, who promoted Riesling cultivation on the Moselle.

Active on the road
Kesten is a good choice for cycling and hiking holidaymakers. The famous Moselle cycle path runs not far from the village, while the neighboring low mountain ranges of the Eifel and Hunsrück attract sporty cyclists. If you enjoy hiking, you can choose from the stages of the Moselsteig quality hiking trail, its circular trails - known as "Seitensprünge" - and numerous hiking trails in the Bernkastel-Kues vacation region.
