Nordic walking is almost twice as efficient as ordinary walking without poles. The additional arm-and-pole movements make use of the entire muscle system. Even at a slow pace, Nordic walking can improve fitness and boost the cardiovascular and immune systems. It also releases tension in the neck and shoulder area.
Those who want to keep fit and stay healthy during their holiday by the Moselle will find just what they need in Bernkastel-Kues: there are ten Nordic walking routes to guide you through the unique cultural landscape of the Moselle region, through forests, meadows and vineyards and along the river.
The routes, which are all signposted and vary in difficulty, are spread out across the entire area surrounding the town of Bernkastel-Kues. They are between three and 20 kilometres long, offering a richly varied range of walking tours to suit all requirements. The routes start from the Kues plateau (at the Kurgastzentrum - the health resort visitors' centre), the Graacher Tor ("Graach Gate") in Bernkastel, the ruins of Landshut Castle and the community hall in Andel.
Poles are also available to hire from the health resort visitors' centre.
